We, the below named organizations, fully support Senate Bill 118A, “A Bill In Support of UC Divestment From War Crimes.” Though we may or may not be a part of the UC Berkeley community, we do not believe that American Universities should be profiting from war crimes. Investing money in weapons manufacturers whose weapons have been directly linked to war crimes committed in the Palestinian territories by the Israeli government is inconsistent with our ethics. As organizations with a focus on social justice in Israel/Palestine and for all peoples, as Americans, and as Israelis we feel alienated by President Smelko”s veto of a bill that supports human rights and upholds international law, and, which therefore embodies our values as an organization and as individuals.
We urge the ASUC to override President Smelko”s veto in order to uphold our values as a community.
