Following in the footsteps of the BDS movement against the South African apartheid regime, citizens around the world have been responding to a similar call by Palestinian civil society. The BDS movement in the US has gained new momentum, particularly in response to the Gaza massacres. Professors have called for an Academic and Cultural boycott of Israeli institutions, students and church groups have been organizing divestment campaigns, and trade union activists have been mobilizing.
Today”s program explores some aspects of the BDS movement in the US with guests:
Bill Fletcher – Immediate past president of TransAfrica Forum, Executive Editor, The Black Commentator and member of Advisory Board of US Committee for Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel.
Alex Shams – USC International Relations student, co-president of USC chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine; and Noor Salem – student at CSULB, member of MSA, who helped organize a divestment resolution that has been introduced the student government
Michael Letwin – co-convenor, New York City Labor Against the War; founding member of Labor for Palestine;
former President, Assn of Legal Aid Attorneys/UAW 2325, and former anti-apartheid activist
