USACBI welcomes Fred Moten to its Organizing Collective

The US Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel is delighted to welcome Fred Moten, Helen L. Bevington Professor of Modern Poetry at Duke University and leading scholar, to its Organizing Committee.

Fred Moten was born in Las Vegas, Nevada and educated at Harvard and the University of California, Berkeley.  He is author of In the Break: The Aesthetics of the Black Radical Tradition (University of Minnesota Press), Hughson”s Tavern (Leon Works), B. Jenkins (Duke University Press), and two forthcoming books: The Feel Trio (Letter Machine Editions) and “when one consents not to be a single being” (Duke University Press).

Fred Moten’s speech to the American Studies Association on Palestine and academic boycott, and his article, “The New International of Insurgent Feeling,” have been widely distributed as a call to action for boycott and internationalism.

Fred Moten says, on the importance of joining USACBI and working for the academic and cultural boycott:

My political consciousness was formed in the struggles for African American civil rights and self-determination and further developed in the struggle against South African Apartheid, which took active and successful form in the divestment movement that swept American colleges and universities in the 1980s. The sense of the necessity of human solidarity against racism, settler colonialism and state violence instilled in me by my family, my teachers and my friends and comrades requires nothing less than my full and active support for and participation in the drive for Palestinian liberation. This now takes its most palpable form here in the United States in the call for an academic and cultural boycott of Israel.

Welcome Fred Moten to the Organizing Collective of USACBI!
