:: BDS CONFERENCE ORGANIZING MEETING, AND INFO-SESSION! ::

=><=

Dear friends and allies,

On October 15 to 17, 2010, a historic conference will take place in Montreal which aims to consolidate and move forward the movement for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israeli apartheid.
In 2005, over 170 Palestinian civil society organizations, from trade unions to women”s groups to refugee organizations, issued a call to international civil society to engage in a comprehensive BDS campaign against apartheid Israel until Israel complies with international law and respects Palestinian human rights. This call for BDS explicitly takes its inspiration from the global boycott movement which helped to end apartheid in South Africa in the 1990s.

Several Palestine solidarity organizations in Montreal have formed a committee to organize a conference intended to carry forward the momentum for Boycott Divestment and Sanctions against Israeli Apartheid, which is growing daily around the world. The committee is made up of members of Coalition for Justice and Peace in Palestine, Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights, Tadamon, College and University Workers United. Canadian Union of Postal Workers. And supported by the (BNC) Boycott National Committee in Palestine, and Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid in Toronto. However, we would like to expand the organizing process of the conference and better represent the diverse solidarity movement and those who support the campaign for Boycott Divestment and Sanctions here in Montreal and Quebec.

That is why your participation is so important! It will allow the BDS movement to grow among a diversity of institutions, as well as in the public sphere. Your presence would also help consolidate our efforts and our resources, and would make this conference a genuine success. We invite you to participate in our open meeting, which will take place at Alternatives (3720 Parc) on Tuesday July 6th at 7pm. The goal of the meeting is to both introduce the conference and discuss the different committees that need your participation.

In solidarity
