November 9-11, NYC: Second International Meeting for Science in Palestine

USACBI supports the following event, organized by Scientists for Palestine

Scientists for Palestine is proud to announce that our Second International Meeting for Science in Palestine will take place at Columbia University, New York, NY, USA. Scientists for Palestine members and other members of the international scientific community will gather from Nov. 9-11 to discuss and work toward an end to Palestine’s academic isolation. The event is co-sponsored by the Center for Palestine Studies at Columbia University, Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine, Science for the People and Within our Lifetime – United for Palestine. This will be Scientists for Palestine’s second international gathering. The group hosted a similar event earlier this year at the University of Cambridge, UK.

The event is for registered participants only, if you’d like to participate please fill out the application here.

The goal of this workshop will be to reaffirm the vision of Scientists for Palestine and establish new and ambitious objectives for scientific collaboration between Palestine and the international community. Attendees will learn about the status of science in Palestine, discuss the challenges of doing research under a 50-year occupation, and establish concrete opportunities for international scientists to get involved. Speakers at the meeting will include Palestinian scientists, as well as other young scientists from around the world.

Even if you can’t attend, Scientists for Palestine needs your support!

International meetings for science in Palestine are essential to break the international isolation of the Palestinian academic community. Though organising high-level scientific events requires funding. To make sure that Palestinian academics are able to participate and take an active role in the event we need to face the high cost of airfares and visa fees. Unfortunately securing funding for non-standard scientific gatherings like the upcoming one at Columbia University, can be challenging. Very few universities, laboratories, or science agencies provide funding for such events.

If you can, please make a donation here. No donation is too small!

We hope to see you in New York in a couple of months.

In solidarity,

Scientists for Palestine.
